Pereskiopsis spathulata – Rootstock

£12.95£19.95

This listing is for Pereskiopsis spathulata cuttings. Pereskiopsis is great for micro grafting as the plant grows like weeds so it really pumps the scion (grafted plant).

Pereskiopsis are tropical cacti and can handle a lot of moisture. They can even be grown hydroponically.

To root the cutting, place them in a jar of water till you see roots, then you can put the cutting into substrate (substrate can be way more organic than other cacti) and can water freely.

Each cutting will be at least 15cm and will arrive ready to start rooting.

Pereskiopsis is a genus of cacti native to Mexico and some parts of Central and South Americas. This genus stands out from other cacti due to it’s versatility in the cacti horticultural space. Pereskiopsis spathulata is the most common species that is distributed.

Lighting Requirements

Pereskiopsis spathulata can handle direct light, especially in the UK. They generally require 10 to 14 hours of light a day.

Watering Requirements

As previously stated, this genus can handle a lot of water as they are tropical cacti. During the active growing months, you can water as and when the substrate looks remotely dry.

Substrate

The substrate should be more organic than most other cacti, this is due to their tropical nature. I would recommend a 60% to 70% organic substrate mix.

Temperature Requirements

Pereskiopsis spathulata are happier in high humidity environments. You can use a humidity tray to keep the humidity levels up, but, this is not strictly required as they will grow fine in open air.

Steps For Rooting

Once the cut is received, place it around 1/2 inch to 1 inch in a pot of substrate. I use wooden kebab skewers to hold up the piece. Water lightly and you should start getting new root growth within a few weeks to a few months depending on conditions.

An alternative way would be to stick them in perlite and wait for them to root, once roots form you can re-pot.

All plants sold are strictly for garden / ornamental purposes. We are here to cultivate these beautiful plants and spread them as far as we can, nothing outside of growing (all things related to growing) will be tollerated.
